Two teams.
One switch.
You get a territory and a quota. You find out how you did at the end of the month. Nobody is in the car with you.
Huddle at nine. A closer rides with you until you don't need one. Everybody sees the board, every day.
Switch is a sales company. We knock doors across Northern California for solar and storage, and Continuum — the EPC we chose to build behind us — engineers, permits and installs every system we sell. We are hiring setters and closers.
How we run the team
Every solar company says the pay is good. Pay is the easiest thing to copy. What actually decides whether you make it through your first ninety days is the people standing next to you at nine in the morning. So this is how we run.
-
We train on the door, not in a classroom
Your first week is spent shadowing someone who closes. You watch the pitch, you watch it fail, you watch them recover. Then you run your own doors with them standing behind you. Nobody gets handed a script and pointed at a neighborhood.
-
Nobody knocks alone
Areas get worked in pairs. We huddle in the morning, we debrief at night, and the group chat runs all day. A bad stretch of doors is a lot shorter when someone else is in it with you.
-
The board is public
Everybody's numbers are visible to everybody, every day. Not to embarrass anyone — so that a rep who is struggling gets help in week one instead of a conversation in week nine.
-
Promotion is arithmetic
What it takes to run your own team here is written down, and it is made of numbers. You will never be passed over because somebody else is better at being liked by management.
-
We say the hard part out loud
Most doors say no. Some days you close nothing. We talk about that openly rather than pretending everyone here is crushing it, because the reps who last are the ones who knew what they were signing up for.
What a week looks like
Door to door has a rhythm. Homeowners are home in the late afternoon and evening, so that is when we work, and the rest of the day is built around being sharp when it counts.
- Morning
- Huddle with the team. Yesterday's numbers, what worked, what got you stopped at the door. Roleplay the objection that beat you.
- Afternoon into evening
- Doors. This is the job. Your area, your pace, with a partner in the same neighborhood.
- After
- Debrief, log the day, and usually food. The team eats together more often than not.
- Every week
- Team night. Recognition for the week's closes, and whatever competition is running.
Why sell with Switch
Every solar company in California will tell you the commission is great and the leads are hot. You have probably already heard it from two of them this month. Here is what is actually different here, in terms you can check.
-
You see everything we see
Full transparency is not a slogan here. You will know what a system costs, what it sells for, what the margin is and what your share of it works out to, before you ever knock on a door. Reps who do not understand the numbers cannot defend them at a kitchen table, and reps who are kept in the dark eventually work out that they were.
-
All the training, at no cost to you
We train you on the product, the objections, the finance options and how a system is actually sized. You will not be charged for training, charged for leads, or asked to buy anything to start. If a company wants money from you before you have earned any, you have found their real business model.
-
Pricing that lets you win without selling someone the wrong system
Our pricing is honest, fair and competitive, which means you can go head to head with anyone in the market on price and still be quoting the system the house actually needs. You never have to choose between winning the deal and doing right by the homeowner. That is the whole point, and it is why our referrals hold up.
-
Paid the Friday after install
Commission is paid on the Friday following completed installation. Not sixty days later, not in pieces, not when somebody gets around to it. You will always know exactly when money is coming and what triggered it.
-
Real tools, not a notes app
You get proper software to manage your pipeline and track every project through to install. You can see where each deal stands without chasing anybody for an answer, which matters most in the weeks where you have a lot of them moving at once.
Two ways in
Door-to-door solar is really two jobs, and most companies blur them together and let new people drown. We separate them, so you can start where you actually are.
Setter
You find homeowners who are genuinely interested and book sit-down appointments for a closer. You do not need to know how to design a system or explain a finance product — that is the closer's job. You need to be good with people, hard to discourage, and willing to knock.
Earnings are uncapped. The more quality appointments you set, the more you make, and there is no ceiling written into it anywhere.
Closer
You run the appointment. That means sizing the system properly against the homeowner's actual usage, and explaining every finance option — cash, loan, prepaid lease, PPA — clearly enough that they can make a real decision rather than a guided one.
It takes experience and training, and we provide the training. Strong setters move into closing when they are ready, not on a schedule.
From there it keeps going. Closers who can teach become the people new reps shadow, and run their own teams and territory. What it takes to get to each step is written down, and it is made of numbers rather than opinions.
Commission structure and the written criteria for each step are covered on your first call with us.
We are a sales partner of Continuum
Switch and Continuum are two separate companies, and the split is total. Switch is a sales company — that is all we are and all we do. Continuum is the EPC that builds everything we sell: engineering, procurement and construction, with more than twenty years of code-compliant work in California behind them.
A sales company is only ever as good as the people who install behind it. We went looking for the most trustworthy EPC we could find rather than the cheapest, because everything you build here — your referrals, your reputation in a territory, your income in year two — depends on the work being done right after you have moved on to the next street.
Switch
The doors and the conversation. We knock, we run the appointment, we design the system and we write the deal.
Continuum
Everything after the signature. Engineering, permitting, equipment, installation, inspection, and service for as long as the system is on the roof.
That split matters to you more than it sounds like it should. Every deal you close goes to a crew whose entire business is code-compliant work done right the first time. You are not losing a Saturday to a permit you cannot fix, and you are not apologizing for an install you did not manage.
It also protects the part of your income that compounds. Continuum treats homeowners the way you would want your own family treated, and they are built to still be here in twenty years to service what they put up. That is what makes a customer comfortable handing you their brother's number — and referrals are where this job stops being cold and starts being a business.
This is not for everyone
You will hear no far more than yes. You will work afternoons and evenings, including some Saturdays, because that is when people are home. What you earn moves with what you do, which is the appeal and also the risk.
The people who do well here are coachable, hard to embarrass, and competitive with themselves. Experience selling is genuinely optional — we have taught people who had never knocked a door. Wanting a fixed salary and a predictable schedule is not a character flaw, it is just a different job than this one.
We are looking for two things at once, and we will not trade one for the other. Highly motivated, because nobody succeeds at this without wanting it badly. And ethical, because we sell a twenty-five year product to people in their own homes. A rep who oversizes a system to make a bigger cheque costs us a customer, a referral and a reputation that took years to build. We would rather be a person short than carry someone like that.
